A new star is born

A new star is discovered

Nadine DEBAY

By Artlover888

This year’s expo was held amidst a dismal season for most of the tourist operators in the South of France. Valbonne was no exception; and compared to its twin village of St. Paul de Vence, the crowd that turned up at the expo was slightly larger than expected. The French inhabitants turned out in force, perhaps due to their pet-subject being exhibited – contemporary art!

There was the contingent of well-known names showing off their latest creations, such as:- Caumartin-PENNANEAC’H, COTTEROT, RUTA, Nelson BOYER, GERASIMENENKO, RUDLER, DIDH, PICON, FLEERACKERS, RAGUZ, GRAPPIN, DRAVET and DEDEBANT. Also worth mentioning were Régine PIVIER-ATTOLINI and BOURGEOIS. Missing from the list are those famous Parisians but perhaps they are now too busy to show at Valbonne.

One star that was new to Valbonne this year is a superb sculptress Nadine DEBAY. A picture is worth a thousand words, so, let’s see if her works compliment her words!

. "

"Nadine DEBAY, was born on August 20, 1963 and is a self-taught sculptress. She lives between Paris, Toulouse and Burkina Faso.

Eager for impressions and for contrasts she is a lover of nature and travel. She provokes fate as she provokes her work, urged to venture towards the mysteries of man and life, to transcribe in the creations a world of hope and love.

Fate or necessity...

... I was 27 years old when I discovered sculpture.

At the time I was looking for a means of expressing my feelings through music and photography, but, when I started working with clay I found my freedom and inspiration.

Suddenly my existence took on a new meaning. The natural material became the melting pot of my inspiration.

The docile, fluid, earthly texture, offers a conciliation to our previous history, an intimate meeting with the world of creation.

Each of my sculptures is a step towards the unknown. Never knowing if I am going to succeed, I become lost gladly in the irrational.

Forgetting the past, evading the future, I give way to the moment, immerse myself in the material, letting it guide me towards a new shape which takes form.

An immense universe called Freedom opens up to me. What happens next is a result of alchemy. Out of a miscellany of copper, zinc and tin, transformed by fire, my bronzes are born, opening the door to eternity.

May be it’s a way of smiling at death, touching infinity. But what matters, is that it is present, a life in movement, the will to say, to listen, to do, to like, to forget, being that we are to cultivate Peace because only it can make us free.

I create my collection of harmony to my scale, trying to reorganize chaos by enigmatic silhouettes in soothing forms, symbols of serenity and love.

Each is a bearer of a privileged mode of expression which is essential to discover, to open the doors of our imagination and to contribute to the evolution of a better world."

There is also a small exhibition of her works for sale in an Antibes gallery after the Valbonne show. The details are as follows:-
