PARIS, FRANCE.- Yesterday's and today’s sale of Post-War and Contemporary Art totaled €24,560,760 /£16,701,168 /$32,985,100 the highest total for a sale in France in this field. The highlight of the evening part was Francis Bacon's Untitled (figure on a Dai) 1958-59, which realized €6,864,000 the most expensive contemporary art lot ever sold in France. Further highlights which set new world auction records included Joan Mitchell’s Sans titre, 1971 (€5,184,000), Kazuo Shiraga's Chizosei Shomenko (€300,000) and Pablo Atchugarry's Sans titre, 2004 (€144,000). The sale was 81.5% sold by lot and 95.5% by value. Buyers were 83% European, 12% American, and 5% Asian. |
